Collection: William Tillyer

William Tillyer was born in Middlesborough and studied painting at Middlesbrough College of Art before graduating to the Slade School of Art, London.

He began to make radically experimental work across all media: painting, printmaking, glass and sculpture.  In the 1970's, Tillyer returned to printmaking with renewed vigour and fresh experimentation using a variety of techniques from etching to five-tone screenprinting.

He has served as a Visiting Professor in the USA, at the Bath Academy and at Chelsea School of Art.

Collection in major institutions in the US include the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Brooklyn Museum.  In the UK, notable collections include the Tate Gallery, The Arts Council Collection, MIMA, and the V&A London.

Since 1978, Tillyer has shown regularly at the Bernard Jacobson Galleries in London, New York and Los Angeles.
