Collection: Sarah du Feu - Landlines - 11 April - 2 May 2026
Sarah du Feu was awarded the Zillah Bell Prize at Printfest 2025.
Sarah trained as a printmaker at Leeds Beckett University gaining a BA in 1998 and an MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice in 2010. She taught printmaking in Leeds for 25 years before retiring from university life in 2020. She now lives and works as an artist in the South West, working both at home and in a larger workshop with the Frome Printmakers.
Sarah uses various printmaking processes to create multi-layered pieces exploring landscape. Her own personal responses are intermingled with ideas of the greater human relationship we have with our environment.
Using etching and mono printing to develop rich, textural surfaces. Sarah builds up layers using stencils and multiple copper etching plates. The grid is a recurring device that both breaks up and fragments the viewpoints, as well as creating order and harmony in the compositions. There is a deceptive serenity and ‘gentle touch’ that disguises the work involved in each piece.
More recently Sarah has introduced collage as a way of building up compositions. This is partly a necessity born out of working on a smaller etching press, but it has enabled her to carefully consider form, fragmentation and the fracturing of our landscapes, both in the way we use them and the way we see them.
